Department

The Compensation Services department within the Division of Human Resources and Inclusive Excellence is responsible for managing employee classification , compensation, and related personnel processes. The department ensures that staff and management positions are appropriately classified and compensated in alignment with CSU systemwide standards and collective bargaining agreements. We seek an exceptional individual to join our team as the Confidential Compensation Services Support (Confidential Administrative Support I). The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to inclusivity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Compensation Services Manager, the Confidential Compensation Services Support provides entry-level confidential support related to personnel, compensation, and classification functions. Assists with research, data compilation, document preparation, and process coordination, while exercising discretion and judgment when handling confidential information. Under direct supervision, the Confidential Compensation Services Support completes routine compensation and classification related analyses, including but not limited to position description updates, in-range progressions, reassignments, stipends, and bonuses for staff positions. Generates routine and recurring reports, researches and resolves basic discrepancies, and supports process improvement and automation efforts by assisting with the documentation and evaluation of workflows and functional needs. The position maintains a high level of confidentiality and professionalism when handling sensitive personnel information. Assists in compiling data and documentation used by management in matters related to collective bargaining agreements, classification, and compensation activities. Other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university or professional training program specific to the position and directly related work experience, or a combination of education and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the essential function of the position. Must have a basic foundation of knowledge of the principles of organization, administration, and management; and the ability to analyze and find solutions to problems, work independently, communicate effectively, and write clear and concise reports.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to complete the background check satisfactorily may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.  

Preferred Qualifications

Experience providing administrative or operational support in a confidential environment including exposure to personnel records, compensation actions, or employment data. Working knowledge of basic compensation, classification, or personnel administration concepts, with the ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, and collective bargaining agreement provisions to routine situations. Demonstrated ability to maintain strict confidentiality and exercise sound judgment and discretion when handling sensitive personnel and compensation information. Experience reviewing, compiling, validating, and organizing data and documentation with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

Ability to generate routine reports, research employment or salary history, reconcile discrepancies, and support audits using HR systems or administrative databases. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare correspondence, draft summaries, document procedures, and communicate professionally with internal stakeholders. Demonstrated organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple tasks, follow established workflows, meet deadlines, and maintain organized electronic and physical records.
