Position Information

  • This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position.
  • This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation.
  • Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
  • The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.

Department Summary

The basic function of the Finance, Management and Marketing department office is to provide support to their faculty, teaching associates and graduate assistants and to assist students with concerns and direct them to the campus office as appropriate.

The Department of Finance at San Diego State University offers undergraduate specializations in the areas of Finance, Financial Services, and Real Estate. Graduate programs are available in Finance and Financial & Tax Planning.  Career opportunities for finance graduates include positions with business and nonprofit organizations in financial management, protection of assets, client services, evaluation and selection of securities for investment portfolios and loan management, financial and estate planning along with wealth management, and real estate services, development and property management. The Department supports research in real estate, financial management, financial planning, and investments.

The Department of Management offers undergraduate specializations in Human Resource Management, Entrepreneurship, and General Management. MBA specializations in Entrepreneurship and General Management prepare masters’ students for tomorrow’s leadership challenges. Career opportunities for graduates in domestic and international business, human resources, corporate governance, and organizational management. The Department supports research and teaching focused on understanding a wide range of organizations from a variety of perspectives, including entrepreneurship innovation, leadership, diversity, human resource management, employee and firm performance, ethics, strategic management, corporate governance, and international management.

The Department of Marketing offers undergraduate specializations in Marketing, Integrated Marketing Communications, and Professional Selling and Sales Management.  Career opportunities for graduates include sales and sales management, brand management, marketing research, market analyst, retailing, advertising, digital and social media, media planning and buying, and positions in advertising and marketing communications agencies as account planners or account executives. The Department supports research and teaching focused on understanding branding, communication, sales, health, and consumer welfare. They apply behavioral, quantitative, and managerial orientations to explore how marketers can engage with consumers, how organizations can advance sales, and how consumers understand and communicate about brands.

Education and Experience

Entry to this classification requires a fully functional knowledge of and skill in standard office procedures and practices, as well as an ability to understand and operate in a variety of organizational structures. Additionally, incumbents are expected to have a thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation and be able to clearly communicate orally and in writing. Some positions may require a knowledge of business mathematics beyond basic arithmetic. The ability to use and quickly learn new office support technology systems and software packages is also a prerequisite.

These qualifications would normally be obtained through a high school program, technical/vocational program, or their equivalents combined with several years of related office work experience.

Key Qualifications

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Experience in an academic setting.
  • Experience using Oracle, PeopleSoft, Adaptive, and MyRF is preferred.
  • Experience as an administrative coordinator in higher education or similar settings is preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $4,251 per month. 

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,058 - $6,653 per month.
