Job Summary

Reporting to the Sr. Associate AD for Compliance and receiving general direction from the Director of Athletics, the Academic Eligibility Coordinator oversees the APR/GSR, Academic Eligibility Certification, and Transfer Eligibility and Evaluation programs and processes. This position is also responsible for the timely and accurate reporting and submission of all related data. Working collaboratively with the Sr. Associate AD for Compliance, Director of Compliance, Director of Student-Athlete Services and the assigned advisors, the Academic Eligibility Coordinator addresses the overall academic goals associated with Athletics such as APR, graduation rates, at-risk student-athletes, academic integrity, advising and other directives assigned by the Sr. Associate AD for Compliance. 

The Academic Eligibility Coordinator will serve as a point person for on-site recruiting visits for potential transfer student-athletes. This position will also ensure that all NCAA, affiliated conference, university and department rules and regulations are adhered to. 

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and prepare the department’s APR and GSR data collection and input within the NCAA APP system
  • Organize and ensure the accuracy of the department’s certification of transfer and continuing academic eligibility
  • Prepare transcript evaluations for prospective transfer student-athletes
  • Provide academic impact information on all change of status and NLI forms
  • Develop procedures and coordinate resources to achieve department initiatives with regard to APR, GSR and Eligibility

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA  and institutional policies and procedures pertaining to academic progress
  • Ability to analyze complex situations accurately and report out accordingly
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and implement timelines for certification and APP reporting
  • Ability to apply NCAA bylaws, interpretations to appropriate certification scenarios
  • Detailed understanding of the university’s academic procedures and degree requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and implement timelines for certification and APP reporting
  • Demonstrated ability to organize detailed student academic files including GE and major forms, transcripts, course substitution forms, graduation worksheets and  other pertinent documentation
  • Knowledge of NCAA legislation, rules and regulations, especially as they apply to transfer and continuing eligibility
  • Demonstrated understanding of academic potential and risk as it pertains to SJSU students
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and implement timelines for certification and APP reporting
  • General knowledge of university advising methods, procedures and practices
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work with a wide range of constituencies and in a diverse community
  • Ability to organize and plan work and project
  • Ability to successfully handle multiple work priorities, modify and adapt to unique academic situations

 

Required Qualifications

  • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field, including or supplemented by upper division or graduate coursework in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution where such are job-related
  • Three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience. A master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience. A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling or guidance may be substituted for the three years of experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional career or personal counseling

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree
  • Three years of experience within a large public institution, NCAA Division I Athletics Department, and/or collegiate student services area
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of SJSU academic platforms
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of NCAA student-athlete eligibility requirements

 

Compensation

Classification: Student Services Professional III
CSU Salary Range: $4,691/month - $6,683/month

Additional Information

Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. SJSU will issue a contingent offer of employment to the selected candidate, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was offered the position on a contingent basis.
